چکیده

In this paper, we examine the problem of predicting machine availability in desktop and enterprise computing environments. Predicting the duration that a machine will run until it restarts (availability duration) is critically useful to application scheduling and resource characterization in federated systems. We describe one parametric model fitting technique and two non-parametric prediction techniques, comparing their accuracy in predicting the quantiles of empirically observed machine availability distribu-

Minimizing the Number of Tardy Jobs in the Single Machine Scheduling Problem under Bimodal Flexible and Periodic Availability Constraints

In single machine scheduling problems with availability constraints, machines are not available for one or more periods of time. In this paper, we consider a single machine scheduling problem with flexible and periodic availability constraints. In this problem, the maximum continuous working time for each machine increases in a stepwise manner with two different values allowed. Also, the durati...

A New Job Scheduling in Data Grid Environment Based on Data and Computational Resource Availability

Data Grid is an infrastructure that controls huge amount of data files, and provides intensive computational resources across geographically distributed collaboration. The heterogeneity and geographic dispersion of grid resources and applications place some complex problems such as job scheduling. Most existing scheduling algorithms in Grids only focus on one kind of Grid jobs which can be data...

Modelling and Compensation of uncertain time-delays in networked control systems with plant uncertainty using an Improved RMPC Method

Control systems with digital communication between sensors, controllers and actuators are called as Networked Control Systems (NCSs). In general, NCSs encounter with some problems such as packet dropouts and network induced delays. When plant uncertainty is added to the aforementioned problems, the design of the robust controller that is able to guarantee the stability, becomes more complex. In...

Ethical Issues in Network System Design

Today, most desktop computers and PCs are networked — that is, they have the ability to link to other machines, usually to access data and other information held remotely. Such machines may sometimes be connected directly to each other, as part of an office or company computer system. More frequently, however, connected machines are at a considerable distance from each other, typically connecte...

Designinga Neuro-Sliding Mode Controller for Networked Control Systems with Packet Dropout

This paper addresses control design in networked control system by considering stochastic packet dropouts in the forward path of the control loop. The packet dropouts are modelled by mutually independent stochastic variables satisfying Bernoulli binary distribution. A sliding mode controller is utilized to overcome the adverse influences of stochastic packet dropouts in networked control system...
